About

Wilken Creek is a micro level sustainable farm initiative in Northwest Arkansas focused on permaculture unique to the Ozark region. By incorporating a manageable 15 acre land area, including an all season wet creek and abutting a state park, we are able to learn + develop + implement an array of agroecology techniques such as:

  • No-Till Farming
  • Chemical Free
  • Rainwater Harvesting
  • Biological Pest Control
  • farmer managed natural regeneration
  • humanely raised livestock
  • intercropping
  • micro farming
  • market-based diversification
  • organic fertilization
  • natural seed treatments
  • synergy (livestock+crop+soil+water+trees)
  • Recycling
  • Carbon Farming
  • Emphasis on social value as opposed to solely profit maximization
  • Supporting local markets
  • aquaponics
  • hydroponics
  • renewable energy/solar
  • co-creation/knowledge sharing
  • U.N. Sustainability Goals: 2, 3, 6, 7, 12, 13, 15, 17

Why support Wilken Creek? Challenges of sustainable farming include: pests, low income/return on investment, identification of soil infertility, advanced research requirements, combatting erosion, diminishing returns, high input prices, low seed survival rates during learning and transitional phase, increasingly erratic weather patterns, labor shortages, security, inflation and limited acreage. Investing in experiences, purchasing from our shop, and adopting from our herd is the means by which our farm can continue to operate despite these challenges. Furthermore, we adhere to a unique production model that we call ‘the rule of thirds’ to ensure that social values remain the core of our operation. One third of produce is reserved for commercial use, one third for donation and one third for personal/other consumption.

If you’re interested in supporting us, please look into our membership program, reserve an experience, or shop now. We try and make it as enjoyable and easy as possible for anyone to participate so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
